Steven John Wilson ist ein englischer Musiker. Er ist der Gründer, Gitarrist, Leadsänger und Songschreiber der Rockband Porcupine Tree und Mitglied mehrerer anderer Bands, darunter Blackfield, Storm Corrosion und No-Man. Er ist auch als Solokünstler tätig. Er gilt äußerst produktiver Musiker und wurde von der Kritik hoch gelobt. Zu seinen Auszeichnungen gehören sechs Nominierungen für den Grammy Award: zweimal mit Porcupine Tree, einmal mit seiner gemeinsamen Band Storm Corrosion und dreimal als Solokünstler. 2017 beschrieb ihn der Daily Telegraph als "einen konsequent unabhängigen Künstler" und "den wahrscheinlich erfolgreichsten britischen Künstler, von dem man noch nie gehört hat".
Wilson ist Autodidakt als Komponist, Produzent, Tontechniker, Gitarrist und Keyboarder und spielt je nach Bedarf weitere Instrumente, darunter Bassgitarre, Autoharp, Hackbrett und Flöte. Seine Einflüsse und seine Arbeit umfassen ein breites Spektrum an Genres, darunter Pop, Psychedelia, Progressive Rock und Elektronik, wobei sich seine musikalische Richtung im Laufe seiner Alben immer wieder ändert. Bei seinen Konzerten setzt er auf quadrophonen Sound und aufwändige visuelle Effekte. Er hat mit Künstlern wie Elton John, Guns N' Roses, XTC, Opeth, Pendulum, Yes, Fish, Marillion, Black Sabbath und Anathema zusammengearbeitet. Er hat mehrere Pop- und Rock-Klassiker neu abgemischt, darunter Songs from the Big Chair und The Seeds of Love von Tears for Fears, Vienna von Ultravox, Aqualung von Jethro Tull, In the Court of the Crimson King von King Crimson und das selbstbetitelte Debütalbum von Roxy Music.
